Nabarangapur:20/01/2016:: A congregation of local dance troupes kicked off the three-day mega cultural festival of the district ‘Mondei-2015’ here on Tuesday with the traditional march from Maa Bhandargharni temple to mondei ground. ST/SC and Backward Class Development Minister Lalbihari Himirika, Commerce, Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, local MLA Monohar Randhari, Umerkote MLA Subash Gond, performed puja at the temple before the colourful carnival procession moved to Mahatma Gandhi Marg. Besides the traditional folk dance troupes, hundreds of townsmen took part in the parade. The procession saw a number of tribal musical parties and various tribal fancy shows performed along the way. The Mondei carnival reached Mondei Rangamanch
in the evening. Addressing the gathering, Himrika said the festival will certainly provide an opportunity to congregate people from various walks of life to enjoy the exhibition, workshops and performance of varied tribal dances and music. Transport Minister Mr. Majhi Said Mondei is the people’s festival of Nabarangpur district. It is an occasion to bring to the notice of others, besides developmental activities, the local life-style, traditional art, music and cultural activities. Development commissioner cum additional chief secretary R Balkrishan, stress on preserving of culture and development of tourism in the district for socio-economic development of people. Presiding over the meeting Collector and chairperson of district council of culture Ms. Rashmita Panda, said Mondei strives to proclaim the rich heritage of art, culture and tradition of Nabarangpur district through love and friendship, unit and integrity, peace and prosperity. Through Mondei, the district showcases the talent at the grassroots and also reaches out to the people to create awareness about the different government schemes. Demonstration stalls are set up to display the schematic benefits and disseminate information and the services provided by different line departments. It is an opportunity for the cottage and rural industries to display their products at a Handicrafts exhibition.
Among others Commerce and transport minister, Odisha film development corporation chairman, Muna Khan, local MP Balabhadra Majhi, Koraput MP Jhina Hikka, MLAs Manohar Randhari, Subash Gond spoke on the occasion. The programme started with Odissi dance dedicated to Goddess Durga by Nrutyadham, a troupe from Bhubaneswar.
