Bhubaneswar 07.02.2018-(By Prasant Kumar Bhuyan) All India People’s Science Congress (AIPSC), a National event where more than 800 delegates along with eminent scientists from approximately 42 science forums of All India People’s Science Network (AIPSN) across the Country come together for the` promotion of science and public participation in Science and Technology, is being held in NISER, Jatni from 9th February to 12th February 2018. Delegates to the congress will represent a spectrum of representation, including scientists, academics, policy makers, activists working at community level for science popularization etc. The objective of the AIPSN is for advancing, promoting and furthering the cause of science in India. It is a network of Science Forums with a social outlook working all over the country. 16th All India People’s Science Congress (AIPSC) will be held at NISER, 800 Scientists and People’s Scientist’s from all over India join in the 16th All India People’s Science Congress (AIPSC) from 9th to 12th February 2018.Experts/ Scientists and more than 800 delegates from different parts of India will participate in the AIPSC, A 23 members organising committee along with 13 members advisory committee formed under the Chairmanship of Dr. Aurobindo Behera, IAS, Retd. Coordinate the congress.The All India People’s Science Network is a network of over forty People’s Science organisations spread all over the country. The AIPSN started its activities as a network of activist organizations involved in Science Popularization and in examining related to the interface of science with society. In the last twenty six years, the AIPSN has worked on several issues relating to science-society interaction. Some of the examples are spread of mass literacy, reasoning and rationality, health, environmental awareness, appropriate technology development etc. Through these attempts the AIPSN has emerged as a prominent platform for interaction between scientists, technologists, social activists, cultural groups, students, teachers and youth.The broad themes to be discussed at AIPSC are as follows: Science Popularization; Environment, Climate Change & Development; S & T, Emerging Technologies &Self Reliance; Decentralization & Democratization and Technology Application; Technology Applications in Agriculture to Promote Food Security; Education and Literacy;Health and Medicines;Social Exclusions: The Role of Science & Technology Speakers of different secessions:Speakers are likePrajvalShastri, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, T.V.Venkateswaran, Vigyan Prasar, SatyajitRath, IISER, Pune, S. Opening Plenary: Opening plenary on development of Odisha & Cultural Presentation by Artistes from Odisha/AIPSN groups will be organised on the 9th February at 10 AM. After opening plenary the congress will inaugurate by Ms. Usha Devi, Minister, planning & Convergence, Skill Development & Technical Education, Govt. of Odisha at 2 PM. The inaugural ceremony will have two keynote presentations by eminent speakers on issues of concern for the AIPSN. This will be organized on 12th February at 9 AM. Chief guests of the closing ceremony is Mr. Badri Narayan Patra, Minister School & Mass Education, Science & Technology and other eminent guests are Scientist Dr. Balasubramanian and SahebKasbe, Ms. Yomba, Chief of UNICEF State Office, Odisha, Padmashree Bhabani sankar Pattnaik etc.Different exhibitions like 1) Understanding the Universe; 2) Origin of Life; 3) Environment and Climate Justice; and 4) S&T for Rural Application will be set up at the venue of the Congress. In addition, book stalls exhibiting different books on science will be set up. Each AIPSN member will have a pavilion where they would depict the activities of the organisation related to S &T promotion and popularisation through charts, models and other AV media. Children Science festival: On 10th February near about 100 children will be participating in the children science festival. Where the science teacher and scientist will be interact among the high school student. Space for Sell Your Idea: Different posters, presentations and activities of state group will be display in this area for understanding the issue and cross learning.
