Bhubaneswar ,10th January 2018 (By Abdul Sattar Khan) Today, Sri Chita Ranjan Beura, Junior Engineer, WESCO, Binka Section, Dist. Subarnapur has been caught red handed by the officers of Vigilance, Sambalpur Division for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs. 8,000/- from Sri Bhramara Karna of village Gulunda, PS. Binka, Dist. Subarnapur for the purpose of rectification of provisional electricity consumer bill supplied to the agricultural land of the complainant.The gist of the case is that during the month of December, 2016, the complainant Sri Karna had installed one lift irrigation point in his agricultural land for the purpose of irrigation and was regularly paying provisional electricity bill. He had repeatedly requested the accused Sri Beura to take steps for installation of electric meter and issuance of regular electricity bill against the actual consumption of electricity instead of paying provisional bills. On 23.09.2017, he had submitted an application to the Executive Engineer, WESCO, Subarnapur Division for the above purpose. However, when he requested the accused Sri Beura for the needful, the latter demanded bribe of Rs.8,000/- for installation of electric meter and issuance of regular electricity bill. Finding no other option, he reported the matter to SP, Vigilance, Sambalpur for necessary legal action. Accordingly, a trap was laid on 10.1.2018 at about 11.20 AM. Accused Sri Beura was caught red handed by the Vigilance officers in his office room, while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.8,000/- from the complainant Sri Karna. The accused Sri Beura received the bribe money from the complainant, counted it by his both hands and kept in his left side wearing shirt pocket. Both the hands wash and shirt pocket wash of Sri Beura gave positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance of bribe money. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Sri Beura. The rented residential house of Sri Beura located at Binka, Subarnapur and his residential house at Koel Nagar, Rourkela are being searched. Sri Beura has been arrested and will be forwarded in custody. In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance P.S. case No. 1 dt. 9.1.2018 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been registered and is under investigation.
