Workshop of State Vigilance

Bhubaneswar 23rd June 2017 (By Debabrat Mohanty)-As part of observance of Diamond Jubilee Year of the State Vigilance in 2017, monthly training workshops are being organised to enhance the knowledge, skill and capacity of the investigating officers and to acquaint them with the latest trend in anti-corruption discourse and strategies. In continuation of the above activity, a one day workshop on “Corruption, Human Rights & Governance” was held today i.e on 23.06.2017 at Vigilance Directorate, Cuttack. Hon’ble Dr. Justice Arijit Pasayat, Judge, Supreme Court of India (Retd.), at present, Vice-Chairman, SIT (Black Money) graced the occasion as the distinguished Speaker and addressed the Vigilance Officers.  The workshop was presided over by Dr. R.P. Sharma, IPS, Director, Vigilance, Odisha. It was attended by 141 officers of the rank of Inspectors, Dy.Supdts. of Police, Addl.Ss.P and Ss.P of Vigilance Organization.In his Welcome address, Director, Vigilance highlighted the illustrious career of Hon’ble Dr. Justice Arijit Pasayat as Chief Justice of Kerala & Delhi High Courts and Judge of Supreme Court of India. Hon’ble Dr. Justice Arijit Pasayat in his illuminating address highlighted that corruption undermines the foundations of democracy, rule of law and constitutional governance system and erodes the human rights of the people and the moral fabric of the society.  He also underlined that corruption breeds inequality and injustice and corrodes the basic values of liberty, equality and fraternity enshrined in the Preamble of the Indian constitution.  He also emphasized the need to connect the discourse on Human Rights to anti-corruption campaign so as to safeguard human dignity and basic rights of the individual.He stressed on the fact that corruption should be seen as a systemic issue and it can be addressed by adopting a right based approach to fighting corruption and thereby empowering the people and ensuring transparency, accountability and good governance.  His address was followed by an interactive session with the Vigilance Officers in which he advised the officers to innovate and come up with innovative anti-corruption strategies.The session ended with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Debasis Panigrahi, IPS, Addl.D.G of Police, Vigilance.
