Vision to produce 50% steel of the country in Odisha:  Dr  Aruna Sharma

Bhubaneswar 16th June 2017 (By Debabrat Mohanty)  : –  Odisha produces lion share of raw material production of the country but steel  production is not on that line. In this context Steel secretary of government of India Aruna Sharma told that, I have a vision to produce 50% of county’s steel production within Odisha. She said this in a  programme organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) here in Hotel Trident. She said that, “ Odisha produces 202-5 million tons of steel every year. But consumption level of steel in this state is very low. To increase the steel production, we must have to set up downstream industries within state for value addition of steel.”She also emphasized on profit of different steel company where the difference level is very high. Those companies own captive mines have 200-300% profit while others only to have 18-20% profit. To solve the raw material logistic problem of Odisha she assured to discuss this matter with chief minister of Odisha to find out possible solution. She also said that steel production in the country increased 20-25% during last few years. While taking responsibility of steel secretary she prepared 28 agenda to pursue. Out of which 23 agenda work done and on rest of the agenda work is going on.”She also talked about solar power project. She suggested that instead of setting up small solar project in different part of the state, investors should have come together to set up big project. In this case investors going to get benefitted and there also chances of higher return for them as well.Mrs Sharma assured to solve the NPA issue of steel industry. She said that NPA of Steel industry is 25%. She discussed this matter with PMO and Finance Ministry and also had discussion with individual banks and Indian Bank Association (IBA). In the welcome address Vishal Agrawal, Chairman, ICC Odisha chapter raised few problems of steel industries facing in the state. He talked about delay in environment and forest clearance and request Mrs Sharma to help in expedite the process. Iron Ore Pricing fluctuation is another problem which Odisha industries facing right now need werious intervention of government, “He added.
