Bhubaneswar, May 18:(By Debabrat Mohanty) – Ransomware attack being reported from various parts of the state, the the state IT Department has alerted the entire district Collectors regarding the Ransomware threat. The cyber attack is not only happening in Odisha, ruling party BJD again at a juncture when deadly computer malware WannaCry Ransomware is on prowl and affecting one organization after the other in the State, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Thursday sought to know about the whereabouts of telecom guru and State Government’s IT advisor Sam Pitroda. Pitroda has been appointed as the Technology Advisor of Odisha Government last year. He enjoys the status of a Cabinet Minister. In the backdrop of WannaCry ransomware infecting computers at various places in the state, the BJP lost no opportunity to hit out at the Odisha government today for appointing Sam Pitroda as its BJP state unit today took a jibe at the IT advisor of the state government questioning his absence at such a crucial time. Speaking to mediapersons here, BJP Spokesperson Sajjan Sharma questioned the absence of state’s IT advisor Sam Pitroda at a time when the number of virus attacks has been growing in the state. Citing the cyber attack in Berhampur city hospital and Purusottampur CHC, saffron party which held a rally here a couple of days ago demanding removal of Pitroda as the Technology Advisor to Odisha Government today held a press conference and claimed Pitroda as a non-working (Non-Resident Indian) NRI.Addressing the media persons BJD State spokesperson Sajjan Sharma insisted that, Sharma said “The IT advisor is missing at a time when the Ransomware virus is inflicting systems of various service providing organisations. The State government should refrain from appointing NRIs as advisors.”In reaction, BJD Spokesperson Amar Satpathy said the Crime Branch has taken up the matter and the guilty will be arrested soon. Besides, Technical Advisor. The BJP questioned about the whereabouts of Pitroda at this critical hour and sought his dismissal.“Where state government has’s IT Advisor gone? His whereabouts are not known at this juncture. We had brought this to the Chief Minister’s notice this week only. We demand the state government do away with the system of appointing a non-resident and non-working advisor. We demand his immediate dismissal,” said BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma addressing a press conference here.It may be recalled here that the BJP had a few days back held a rally at the Station Square here demanding removal of Pitroda from the post of Technical Advisor.On the other hand, the BJD has said that the Crime Branch has already taken up the case and alerts have been issued.“Crime Branch is already on the job. All have been put on alert at the district level wherever there is a possibility of such attack. Since Crime Branch is inquiring into the matter, very soon the criminals will be detected. This is an across the globe problem. Claiming that the senior IT expert has lost his credibility by remaining away from the State when his presence is very much needed to tackle the malware attack, Sharma also questioned the efficiency of the State Government in dealing with the situation.Notably, BJD held a rally in Bhubaneswar on May 14 demanding dismissal of Sam Pitroda from the post of IT Advisor to Odisha Government as he was named in the National Herald case.
