KISS to Participate at UNPFII Session in New York
Bhubaneswar, 21/4/2017 (By Prasant Kumar Bhuyan)- Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has been invited to participate in the Sixteenth Session of United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), a high-level advisory body to the Economic and Social Council. The session, to be inaugurated by the UN Secretary General, will be held at UN Headquarters in New York from April 24 to May 5, 2017.Representative from KISS will make a presentation on “Empowerment of Indigenous Women in Odisha – A Case Study of KISS” and also participate in a panel discussion on the first day. The presentation will focus on how KISS is playing an important role in empowering indigenous girls socially and economically through education, and replicability of KISS Model in other countries.The forum will also celebrate 10th anniversary of the United Nations declaration on the rights of indigenous people. More than 3000 NGO representatives and individuals working for empowerment of indigenous people from member countries of UN will join the session. All Departmental Heads of the UN, Ambassadors of various countries, policy makers and experts will also participate.
