Bhubaneswar ,21st March 2017 (By Prasant  Bhuyan)- In collaboration with Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and Department of Yogic Science, Sri Sri University, the Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Odisha have organised Yog Mahotsav for senior citizens, transgenders, persons with disabilities and victims of drugabuse. The event offers cure for various disorders of the body and mind connected with modern lifestyles and can provide benefit to the general population also. Yoga provides the techniques for coping with life challenges by facilitating mindfulness, emotional awareness, self-soothing, distraction, opposite action, etc. The senior citizens are vulnerable to various kinds of disorders like schizophrenia, dementia, weak memory, arthritis, paralysis, respiratory ailments, gastric diseases, locomotor problems, poor vision, poor hearing, tooth decay, insomnia, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, ctc. Techniques are available in the science of Yoga and Ayurveda for the treatment and management of all these diseases. Persons with disability can take a variety of benefits from Yoga as it can be easily adapted to the specific condition of every individual. Since Yoga provides the method for achieving emotional balance and mental peace, all individuals including transgenders can benefit from this. With regular Yoga practices, it is possible for a man to understand his infinite potential and realise his capability by stretching his limits. Addiction is a serious mental disorder and Yoga therapy is well known for overcoming addiction of any kind by generating self-awareness, discipline and surmounting the compelling  force of sense gratification. Obesity has become a widespread problem and the change in pattern of cooking has assumed great significancein every household. During the Yoga Mahotsav, opportunity will be provided to all to use clay utensils and cook food without oil. Eminent speakers will educate the participants about the varied facets of Yoga Shastra. People will be acquainted with certain simple yogic practices like Jal Neti, Tratak, Pranayama, Dhyan, Swadhyay and Surya Namaskar.
