Bhubaneswar, Dt. 8.3.2017 (By Minaketan Jena)-The importance of women who constitute almost 50 percent of the country’s population, in the growth and development of family, society and nation hardly needs any emphasis. We cannot claim to have progressed in the real sense if women remain largely untouched by our achievements. Government has been pursuing a three- dimensional strategy for development of women, namely social empowerment,economic uplift and gender justice. Legal safeguards for women are monitored by the National Commission for Women so that there is complete empowerment to ensure the realization of the goal of a democratic, progressive and egalitarian society, said Governor Dr. S.C. Jamir.Addressing State Level Women Leaders Convention and the felicitation ceremony, organized by National Alliance of Women, Odisha Chapter on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Governor said, our developmental indices need further improvement. Illiteracy, malnutrition and violence continue to plague women today. In this situation, we must realize that the responsibility of making every woman unique and special is not only that of the Government, but of all citizens. Lopamudra Buxipatra, Chairperson, State Commission for Women, Kasturi Mohapatra, Chairperson, Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Sashi Prava Bindhani, State Information Commission, Pramila Swain, Convener National Alliance of Women, Lalita Missal, State Coordinator among others spoke on the occasion. Women Leaders in various fields were felicitated. First Lady of Odisha Alemla Jamir was present of the occasion.
