Orientation programme on ‘Decentralized Governance and Youth Development’ at Central University of Odisha, Koraput
Koraput ,20th February 2017 : (By Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan) -A three days orientation programme on ‘Decentralized Governance and Youth Development’ was organized at the Sunabeda campus of the Central University of Odisha. from 17 th to 19 th February, 2017. Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University inaugurated the programme and addressed the auspicious gathering on this occasion. The programme was organized by the Department of Economics of the University in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development(RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur. Prof. Mohanty in his address put light on the importance of decentralization and cited the example of Gandhiji’s concept of decentralization. He called the students to be the agent of change for the decentralization and development of the country. In his address he said “Concept of decentralization has been mentioned in Veda and Gandhiji was the first to talk about the decentralization of economy for the development of the society. Decentralization is possible through participation”. “Youth has to be empowered themselves to be developed and youth should think how to be an ideal individual and how to have an ideal society because today’s youth will be tomorrow’s senior citizens” Prof. Mohanty added in his speech. He motivated the students by saying true Governance begun with the self and advised them to be a responsible citizen of the country.Sh. Biswajit Bhoi, Assistant Professor of the department of Economics delivered the introductory remarks of the orientation Programme. Dr. Suvendu Sekhar Padhi, reader in Political Science, Govt. College, Koraput gave his lecture on Decentralized Governance and 73 rd and 74 th Constitutional Amendment Acts. Dr. Kapila Khemundu also talked about the role of Gram Sabha in good governance in the afternoon session. The orientation programme was convened and coordinated by Mr. Biswajit Bhoi,Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, CUO, Koraput and Mr. Suvendu Kumar Baral, Assistant Professor, Department of Local Governance, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development respectively. The inaugural programme was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Minati Sahoo, Assistant Professor, dept. of Economics.Participant from across the discipline of social science and humanities and faculty members were present at large.
