Bhubaneswar 09.08.2016 (By Mano Mani Singh)-To celebrate the competitive as well as the festive mood of Rio Olympics 2016 where 6 of our very own Odia sportspersons have entered to compete in this world mega-event, an exclusive event was organized for the Bhubaneswar denizens. To show our support, encourage and celebrate their entry and represent India in this prestigious sporting event, MyCityLinks in association with BDA-BMC, Jai Odisha and Bakul Foundation organized Road to Olympics Women’s Cyclothon and Sports Quiz.
Mayor Anant Narayan Jena flagged off the women’s cyclothon in the morning where over 100 women, men and kids participated with women cyclists leading the rally. The cyclothon began at Master Canteen and was scheduled to be over at the Kalinga Stadium but due to heavy downpour, the cyclothon was cut short and only conducted in the Janpath area. “It is a proud moment for all of Odisha that 6 athletes are representing India at the Olympics. This event is not only to show our support for our players but also to encourage other athletes, players and especially women and children to play different sports so that our state can churn out more sportspersons and do our country proud. I feel proud to be here amongst all these people who participated in the cyclothon despite the rain”, said the mayor.
In the second leg of the event, a Sports Quiz was organized at a city hotel in the afternoon where around 100 students from 15 schools participated. Celebrated anchor and media entrepreneur Satyabrat Sanu Ratho acted as the Quiz master for the Sports Quiz. Mayor Anant Narayan Jena, MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, Amiya Mallick and Olympian Anuradha Biswal gave away the prizes and encouraged the kids to play more sports.
