Hindalco Distributes Umbrellas, Drives Health Awareness  programme among Rural school Students


Bhubaneswar 31.07.2016 (By Mano Mani Singh)- As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme Hindalco Hirakud a unit of Aditya Birla Group distributed umbrellas among the students studying in different schools  in rural areas near its plant periphery besides sensitizing them on cleanliness, dengue & malaria  prevention and other monsoon related health issues. Over 1200 students will directly get enefitted through the programme that covers ten schools situated in the areas of Dengimacha, Gadmunda, Budhakata, Mohammadpur and Laravanga of Dhankauda block in Sambalpur district.Addressing the students and teachers in the inaugural function held at Adivasi colony project UP School Dengimacha, Sri Rajesh Kumar Gupta Head Hindalco Hirakud Location emphasized  on the values of education. He urged upon all to take preventive measures during the  monsoons for good health and motivated the little ones to remain focused on studies as it is the  only way to secure a good future. Right to education commensurates with facilitating and  creating right means and environment for the children and for such endeavors Hindalco is ever  committed, he added.Speaking about the programme as rather very unique and innovative, Shivanand Mohanty DGM  External Affairs and CSR Hindalco said that an umbrella brings with it huge benefits having multiplying effect. On one hand it will directly help in reducing students class absenteeism seen mostly during monsoons because of frequent health problems caused due to drenching in rains and on the other it will help in huge financial savings for the families on account of medical expenses coming down. While regularity to school will improve student's year end performance,an umbrella will always be used by other family members when the student is back at home, he added. Since most of the students in rural areas come from very poor family background the magnitude of positive impact will be large, he opined.Among others, senior officials of Hindalco, Nirmal Sinha Head HR , JP Nayak Head Smelter,Rajesh Nayak, Subhash Dash  including Smt Archana Gupta President Hindalco Ladies club and other ladies club members spearheaded the drive in different schools. Hindalco CSR team members together with school teachers and volunteers coordinated the programme
