GLOBAL TOUR OPERATOR HELD GUILTY

Bhubaneswar,22.06.2016 (BY Mano Mani Singh)-The Tour Operator “Thomas Cook (India) Ltd.”  has been held guilty and was asked to pay compensation to the customer by  the Hon’ble State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Odisha,  Advocate Mr. Tapesh Roy had booked tickets for the European Grand Tour  for his family commencing from 20 th May, 2013 by paying an advance amount  of Rs.60,000/-. That Thomas Cook did not let have the confirmation of the bookings or the  itinerary rather asked for further advance of Rs.1 lakh to which Mr. Roy  objected and wanted refund of the previous amount paid.  That surprisingly the Tour Operator without processing any tickets or  confirmation to the customer arbitrarily deducted an amount of Rs.23,711/-  and refunded the balance amount, for which Mr. Roy had no option but to  approach the Hon’ble State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission,   Odisha, Cuttack for Redressal of his grievance. That the matter being contested, ultimately the Hon’ble State Consumer  Disputes Redressal Commission, Odisha, Cuttack found Thomas Cook guilty  for deficiency of service and Awarded a compensation of Rs.50,000/- along  with refund of Rs.23,711/- and interest @18% per annum. That the matter  was being argued by Mr. Tapesh Roy, Advocate
