85th Annual Session of National Academy of Sciences in KIIT

Bhubaneswar,05/12/2015 (Biswaranjan Mishra) -The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) is holding its 85th Annual Session at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar and organizing a National Symposium on ‘Marine and Freshwater Ecosystem for National Development’ from December 6 – 8, 2015. This prestigious meet is being held in Odisha after a gap of 19 years.KIIT
The events, being organized jointly with KIIT University, will be attended by eminent scientists like Professor P. N. Tandon, President, National Brain Research Centre, Manesar; Dr. S. Ayyappan, DG & Secretary, DARE, ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. Shailesh Nayak, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences & Chairman, Space Commission, Govt. of India; Dr. Manju Sharma, Fmr. Secretary to Govt. of India & Past President, NASI; Dr. Sudhir Sopory, Vice Chancellor, JNU, New Delhi; Professor Akhilesh K. Tyagi, President, NASI; and Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT.
NASI, the oldest science academy of the country, addresses important societal issues, the solution to which could be provided by scientific endeavors, informed Dr. Ayyappan in a press meet here. Since its inception in 1930, the Academy has been organizing discussions and symposia on various burning issues at a center of excellence every year. This year KIIT University was chosen for this prestigious academic event because of its excellence, contribution to the cause of science and society and global reputation.
The three-day symposium will feature many scientific and technical sessions, including Marine Ecosystem, Marine Biology and Climate Change, Ecological Services and Human Welfare, Fresh Water Eco System, Coastal Zone Management, etc. More than 500 senior and young scientists from all over the country are participating.
A Children’s Science Meet will also be held on the occasion. More than 300 students from 23 schools of the state will participate in the meet, informed Prof. P. P. Mathur, VC, KIIT University. Students will get a chance to interact with scientists of national and international repute, he said, adding that it will benefit the school going children and also motivate them to be engaged in scientific activities. Among others, Prof. U. C. Shrivastava, General Secretary NASI, Dr. Niraj Kumar, Executive Secretary, Prof. Surya Deo and Dr. M. Suar, Director, KIIT School of Biotechnology and local organizing secretary were present at the press meet.
