Red Cross Odisha State Branch Celebrated World AIDS Day -2015

Bhubaneswar ,1st December 2015 (By Manomani Singh)Every year on 1st December World AIDS Day is being celebrated in the world to commemorate those who have passed on and to raise awareness about AIDS and the global spread of the HIV virus. The theme from the year 2011 to 2015 for the World AIDs Day campaign is, “Getting to zero: New HIV infections. Discrimination. AIDS related deaths”.
On this occasion, the State Level Function was hosted at 3.30 P.M. at Red Cross Bhavan with the participation of the Red Cross Members, Counsellors, Youth Red Cross Volunteers in large numbers.

Shri Amar Prasad Satpathy, MLA, Badachana graced the programme as the Chief Guest. He appreciated the humanitarian initiatives taken by Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) and urged the volunteers to take up initiatives to motivate the people to increase awareness, improve education about HIV/AIDS, and set aside and combat prejudices that come with the diseases.

Shri Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA, Bhubaneswar North joined as Guest of honour. He cherished the activities of Volunteers and said If you understand how HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, and the reality of living with HIV today – you can use this knowledge to take care of your own health and the health of others, and ensure you treat everyone living with HIV fairly, and with respect and understanding.
AIDS DAY
Dr. Chakradhar Panda, Honorary Secretary, IRCS-OSB welcome the Guests and expressed the volunteers to unite the people of the society in the fight against HIV & show their support for people living with HIV. Besides, he said ending the AIDS is possible, but only by closing the gap between people who have access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services and people who are being left behind.

Sri Khatu Charan Biswal, Under Secretary coordinated the programme and Sri Govinda Chandra Mahunta, Honorary Joint Secretary offered vote of thanks. Sri Pradip Ku. Nanda assisted the programme.

At 5 P.M. Human Chain & Candle show on HIV/AIDS organized in front of Red Cross Bhavan, Bhubaneswar. More than 200 Youth Red Cross Volunteers have participated in the said programme and created awareness among the people on HIV/AIDS. The human chain & candle show was coordinated by Dr. Kalpana Das, Youth Red Cross Officer
